Hoi RF and other interested people!
The next Fan Faire has been announced for August this year in the Bally's, Las Vegas, NV.

I have had tons of fun the last 2 years and as I like Vegas a lot I am considering making it a hattrick this year ;).
Personally my plans are like "fly to San Francisco, stay there a few days, then over to vegas, attenad FF, then back to SF for a few more days, then back home", making a total of 12-14 days.
Anyone else interested to be there in Vegas this year? Especially Rahslack and Obs have backed out the last 2 years, no more excuses! pallysmile

Interesting fact for those planning to fly: if I woould book my flight now from Duesselrof to San Francisco it would cost 1020 Euro. If I wanted to travel in May instead of August (2 months from now) it would only be 550 - 600 Euro!
My conclusion is that so far in advance only the standard flights are listed and no discounts, so I myself will wait till around May until finally booking the flight.
you could always fly budget airline to UK, then fly from here. It's a pain in the ass, but dates in August are about £700 right now
Well, would still be 800 Euros + the cheap air line, not counting how much fun it is to do that ;).
I am confident that I will find something suitable, but thanks for the info :)

Or it could be that its just cheaper to visit places in May when most families cant travel due to children being in school whereas August is very much a peak holiday time when airlines can charge what they like...How much would it cost you to book now and fly in September for instance?
General consensus online seems to be buy as soon as you can.
Hard to properly calculate cost from the UK yet without proper dates but a London > Vegas > Frisco > London or London > Frisco > Vegas > London trip around end of July/August is costing £1,000-£1,100 at the moment, double what it cost for last years trip and that doesnt include more expensive rooms due to Pinky not sharing! :cry:
I dont really see the point in visiting Frisco both before and after Vegas, its a 'wasted' day of the holiday travelling. I'd either go somewhere else or spend longer in Frisco in the first instance.
Ye but that is by having to spend the stupid night wherever the first plane stops on the way out and in as well. So kind of sucks. A direct connection flight is up there to 1000 pound too from londonm to sf and form sf to london. Ideally you would wanna fly london-sf and vegas-london or the other way around anyway which is even more.
Point about SF both times is that it normally is cheaper to go to Sf than to vegas from Germany (dunno about UK), other than that I would prefer not going back and forth either.
Could maybe also take a flight to SF, then go to Vegas same day with normal flight or such, I will chedk out a few alternatives the next days.
Booked hotel room 4-9th - researching flights atm.
Guessing most go for a platinum pass or is there a group guild discount like i remember for previous years ?

We always take All Area access. The group discount is refunded later on if you get any, so don't worry about it when ordering.

I said the last two years that I would go, but ended up not going. This year, I guarantee that I will go. I have frequent flyer miles and will use them for Las Vegas, so there is no excuse not to go!
Anyone want to split a hotel room so it's cheaper? I'll most likely arrive on the 5th and leave on the 9th.

So far no info regarding group discount, but I will try to find out. If we are close to 10, I am sure we can find a few more (Vmas always likes exclusive stuff!)
BTW, as I get messages from Bally's from last year, I got this offer today, was quite a bit cheaper than the SOE offer for all days except Friday/Saturday, so sneaky as I am, I have booked from 03 - 06 via this offer, then 6./7. via the SOE and then 8./9. again from the offer.
Bit complicated I admit, but saves some dollars.

Finally got vacation confirmed. Took a while to convince my boss that we wouldn't have problems at the end of August (big deadline) because of it.
Might miss some Sunday raids because of the promises I made in return, but it's worth it ;)

ok, flights finally booked! time to win back all the dollah I lost during the last 2 trips!
Note to Mr Groll. My flights cost £200.00 more than last year, but £30 less than the year before that! Beware waiting too long in buying a ticket...
Flights booked. 28/7 to S.Fran -> 4/8 to Vegas -> 11/8 back home.
Bally's room booked. Same way as Imra with 2 days through SoE, rest via the site he linked.
SoE Platinum Pass booked.
Just need a hotel in San Fran now to complete the trip pallysmile

I've never been to such an event. Sounds like it could be fun - but wouldn't know even where to begin when it comes to getting a place to stay and such!
Well, the place to stay in vegas really is one of the hotels at the strip. Some of them can be in the 35 - 40 $ per night per room range. I myself prefer to stay at the hotel where the FF itself is held, in this case the Bally's. If you share a room with someone (I think Obs was looking?) it should be around 40 $ per night at max for the 4 nights.
SB, Kik and I will arrive in Vegas on the 4th and stay till the 10th (maybe I stay a day longer, depends on flights) after spending a week in San Francisco.
Just a small heads up :).
Oh ya, the registration is open now, so far we don't know if there will be any guild percentage (the last years if you had 10+ from 1 guild attending, you got tthe admission 50 % off).
I am already looking forward to it - haven't been to San Francisco for a dozen years or so and vegas itself is always fun :beer:

I successfully booked my flight and bought a platinum pass for the Fan Faire, so no more slacking for me! I arrive on August 4th, 2010 at 22:35 and leave August 09, 2010 at 16:35.
Does anyone want to split a hotel room on or near the Las Vegas strip? I don't mind where as long as it's within walking distance of Bally's. I have no problem sleeping on the floor if there's only one bed.

It's pretty close to the strip (opposite side of the road to MGM grand infact), has a pool, and (about 6 years ago) was pretty decent/clean standards/quiet to stay at
Keep in mind that the walk from MGM Grand to Bally's takes about 30 minutes (at least in hot weather). But maybe SB and Kik have a place for an additional person (rooms were big enough)? I mean, if you are 2 or 3 in a room doesn't make a huge difference.
I myself am not too fond of sharing rooms (bad memories about old trips when i couldn't afford single rooms), sorry :(
It's only 2-3 blocks - average walking speed is about 10 minutes.
Hmhm, Bally's is opposite the Bellagio. If you make it in 10 minutes from behind the MGM Grand to there with normal walking speed I am impressed
Well I don't dawdle :P The walk from mgm to the stratosphere was a bit under an hour, to the mall about 45 mins. Anyway 10,15,20 mins - still totally doable for anybody imo. It doesn't feel like a chore, cuz you can just go into any casino or bar enroute
It's somewhere between the 10 from Meem and the 30 from Imra imo. Anyway not undoable for a young sporty guy like Obs for sure.
There's only 2 beds in the room me & SB booked though.. but Obs can sleep with me in 1 bed if he wants :grimmsmile: (or the floor if he likes that so much)
And depends if SB is ok with an intruder into our nice little household of course! ;)
Can also try to ask Koyoti/Cerberus/Klorch/Rahvin(unsure) - they should all have an extra bed at the moment - though they might also prefer to go single like Imra (I know Klorch did last year).

Haha, thanks anyway on the room offer. Maybe I'll just go with that Motel 6 offer or something similar. I have no problem even walking 30 minutes to get to Bally's.
Ya, maybe 30 is exaggerated, but 10 seemed a bit short :). Anyway, it's not unbearable to walk or also to take the monorail (anyone who knows the Simpsons loves it anyway) :).

Greetings,
I am just letting you know I booked the hotel room and the flight.
I will be there the 03/08 in the evening and will leave the 09/08 in the morning.
All in all, with the Fan Faire Pass, the amount is crawling toward 2K Euros.
Ah well scratch that, I guess we live only once...
Besides, I cannot wait for a new opportunity to share a drink with you all guys.

I just booked my hotel room yesterday, so will definatley be there. I live in the US, so my mobile phone should have no issues. You can borrow it as long as you don't rake in too many minutes, due to international charges being a bit steep. :grimmsmile:

Dont have my passport with me at the moment so cant fill it in but has anyone else done it for this trip? It looks like last years application will still be valid? We just need to update where we will be staying?
I remembered the same this morning when I was trying to make sure I didn't forget anything so far.
Will need to look at it tonight but from what I remember from last year, it should indeed still be valid (was for like 3 or 5 years?).

From what I read and unless I am mistaken, the ESTA procedure is valid for 2 years.
On a sidenote, I checked as well on the prestigious Raging Fury T-shirts.
I will be able to come over there with the ones Pippi made for me.
It's not like I can wear them at work anyway :)

People seriously have to fill out the ESTA just to visit the US even if for a few days? When I went to Europe back in 2005 all I needed to do was show a passport.

There was more than 1 ferry tour to Alcatraz last time I visited SF. So maybe another one of them has spots.
When you search on google it keeps saying only 1 company has a contract with it. And that's completely full.
But guess we can ask the hotel there tonight ;)
