How commercial is online gaming in your country?
Here in the Uk online gaming is not commercially advertised on national tv. It's rare to see anything in the press either. I know in Denmark Wow specifically gets quite a lot of airtime. Just wondered what it's like in other countries?
Wow seem to be trying to make online gaming mainstream here in the Uk. They've signed up Mr.T!!!!! and William Shatner to do commercials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDvG6BaIPVg |

Online gaming not so much here in the US, but other games such as Madden and a slew of other console games get a fair bit of airtime here.
Things might change with Blizzard's purchase of Activision, though. We will see. Seems Blizzard is now even bigger than EA. Fancy that...

Re: How commercial is online gaming in your country?
In the US, I can't remember seeing any TV adds for WoW, but it must be a big enough part of the culture because it shows up in places like 2-3 commercials for other products that I've seen, and an entire episode of a popular TV show (South Park). I'd guess that most of the shows viewers have played WoW before or at least know ppl who play and know the stereotypes and such. The commercials seem weird, but I guess not so much since teen agers walk around actually saying shit like "W T F" or even "L O L" now.
Of course WoW is it for RPGs, but there's plenty of adds for other online games, shoot em ups like halo, sports games, etc.

They have just recently started showing the Mr T and William Shatner ads in the US. Have seen some game ads in the past mostly around the holidays

Apart from the WoW clip mailny EA Sports clips are shown on the German sports station. Halo, Crysis and of course the usual PS3/Xbox game commercials are mostly shown on the private stations in the afternoon.

Re: How commercial is online gaming in your country?
On the most viewed TV stations in Belgium, pretty much no airtime is given to anything to do with gaming at all. No commercials, no programs unless the ones that try to show gaming is bad
I know 1 smaller channel which actually does pay attention to it, but it's rather small and very youth orientated. |
