Default Everquest attack 2.0

I dont know if you guys have been following the news because in EU it is sleep time but our wonderful CEO thought it was a good business decision to bring personal matters into the public. Supposedly lizard squad, the hacker/hacking group currently in the news for being caught in sweden and forced to fight crime or do time, defaced Smedley's fathers grave. Smedley thought it was a wise decision to attack lizard squad and say he is coming for him/them.

Well they answered and attacked the ddos of ALL daybreak games and we are now going on 7 hours of everything daybreak being disabled. Lizard squad shows no sign of letting up or turning another cheek and has no regards for the gamers, it is two powerful people being little children and emotional and effecting all of us players who just want to enjoy our free time.

Forums and game servers not reachable atm. Looks like the DDoS attack is going again.

yup, and its not going to stop until either this kid gets bored or gets arrested. I highly doubt the game will be playable for another 3-4 days which is probably when he will get bored and move on to someone else.

From the stuff this kid has done in the past, daybreak isnt going to have the knowledge/power to defend against his attacks for another month or two.

You cant 100% defend against a DDoS attack and daybreak wont have the equipment/software in place anytime soon to make their servers more strengthened against the attacks.
This is going to put another nail in the coffin to kill live servers and a lot of the EQ population.

Default AW: Everquest attack 2.0

Too bad such a DDoS attack can't be tracked down to their initiators.

Sure, it can be figured out which IP's constantly send blocking data packages, but those aren't PCs of the "hackers", just zombifized PCs of technical "newbies" which caught some backdoor trojans etc., while surfing dubious sites or clicking on "Yes, install that cool update" links.

The real initiators just need to store a "Attack those sites" command on special prepared servers, grab their popcorn and watch the news while doing their homework for school.

*edit*

For this particular attack, it seems the *Launcher's Update* server is affected. The EQ launcher can't connect to patcher and Login server, but the game client itself (bypassed patcher) has no problems at all.
I just notice, the Launcher tries to fetch some files, but fails.

while the game client isnt being brought down it is extremely laggy if you make it in and has been since the attack started, if you attempt to zone you get kicked out most of the time and also staying in will randomly kick you out sometimes as well. It is most definitely effecting ingame play as well.

Not to mention, the Chat server is unavailable as well, means Chat channels which are available across all servers and ingame mails are down.
/g, /gu, /rs, /shout and /ooc work since they're just server-internal.
