Getting more and more pissed with Rift.. their programming team is brain dead. They simply break the patcher every fucking time they update it, and that means anyone who paused a download has to restart from the start....

I started to download a 2.5 GB patch and shut off my PC during the night.. during the night they update the patcher, and viola i have to start all over again.

And it is not the first time they have done this. On the first day of the first patch they did it.. not once, but 4 times and have STILL not fixed it.

Fucking morons.. even EQ has a better patcher!

I did, was patched then went to play and it started to patch again causing crash, when I finally got inside found it to be lagtastic and I can run 3 instances of EQ, the UI is dire and after 10 mins it just locked up.

Tons of people have this problem and other problems with the patcher. Beta boards have been flooded with the problem ever since the first beta.

First beta I get to 70% and the net goes down.. I restart and it has to start all over...No beta for Pede

Second beta I download it at a friend with a mega connection and it is no problem. I log in and fall through the world... yes it was a bug but not exactly a great start.

Third beta it works okay

Fourth beta did not attend I was busy

Fith beta .. 2.75 gb download.. same problem as first beta.. come on..

I let it download last night, and at 98% it got an error...

I restart it again.. and guess what... it has to re-download the whole thing again. I can see the bloody download in the folder but the patcher does not accept it because they changed something during the night while I was downloading, so the patcher has to start all over again.. This is pathetic programming.

That is it for me.. RIFT may be the next big thing but as long as the pathetic programmers cant make a basic patcher that can resume, then forget it. Not everyone has unlimited mega bandwidth.

Uh I tried it yesterday and the patcher simply downloaded the 7.5 gigs with no problems... Maybe it is fixed now?

think it isnt a problem when you have a huge connection, but Pede use a 9600 Baud Modem!

would take me 2 to 3 days to download that, so beta will be over by then plus I would be unable to use the net for those days. And it should not be needed since I have most files already and only need a few 100 mb.

And no the patcher is not fixed. The problem is not that it does not download the needed stuff, but that if you for some reason have an error.. connection goes down or whatever.. that breaks the download or you pause it and you need to resume, then you have to start all over again.. and that is unacceptable to say the least.

And frankly I am getting tired of downloading the same 2.75 gb over and over again especially when I have 2.70 gb down already...

And I can tell you exactly what the problem is.. each time they change the patcher or make a patch, the patcher makes a new folder in "downloads" under the Rift folder and the patcher does not recognize previous folders. Right now I have several folders and on is 2.56 gb.. the patcher should go in and recognize the folder and start from where it left off.. but noooooo. it starts up a new folder and starts all over. ATM I am moving the files to the newest folder and will see, but my bet is that like before (first beta) it will not accept it and start all over.

And Vmas.. I have a 1mb connection not 9600 baud modem.
